PEOPLE'S EMERGENCY CLIMATE BRIEFING FILM

Last year, MPs at Westminster were briefed by leading experts on UK and global changes in weather and climate and their immediate and likely impact on the NHS, Military and Security, agriculture/food supply and Immigration among other sectors. These respected contributors set out the facts, projections and opinion on the impact of climate change, or should we say crisis? on these key areas.

Whilst these briefings lasted several hours, a short film focusing on key elements has been released and some well-known commentators have added their reactions and views.

This is a very important film if you have an interest in climate change, it aims to set right some of the apparent denial culture permeating some areas of the media. It aims to inform and prompt discussion with a call to everyone to approach their MP, asking them to petition the Government to arrange a mainstream and all channels showing.

On 30 July, a local screening of the People’s Emergency Briefing was held at Stratton Methodist Church in Swindon.

The film explains the threats posed by climate change and the loss of nature, while also highlighting the opportunities available if action is taken at the necessary scale.

The campaign is calling on the Government to provide the British public with a clear, evidence-based, nationally televised emergency briefing on the climate and nature crisis. The proposed briefing would be introduced by the Prime Minister and delivered by independent experts.

A Parliamentary Call has been established to demonstrate public and political support. People are encouraged to contact their local Member of Parliament and ask them to support the call.

Swindon Climate Action Network, known as SCAN, brings together local people and organisations who care about climate change, sustainability, nature and the wider environment.

The group works to:

SCAN holds monthly meetings where members discuss current projects and explore opportunities for action. Meetings are normally held on the third Wednesday of each month at 7.30 pm, upstairs at The Hop Inn in Old Town.

SCAN is affiliated with Friends of the Earth.
